With its NEO refit program, the Beneteau Group aims to make boat refurbishment a new source of growth. Designed primarily for sailboats from charter fleets, this refit offering is based on standardized packages starting at ?35,000 (excluding tax). This strategy could shift the balance of the used boat market and alter the relationships between boat builders, charter companies, and marine maintenance professionals.
The Beneteau Group is focusing on the second life of its boats
With NEO, the Beneteau Group aims to expand its business beyond the construction and sale of new boats. Unveiled in its new format at the 2026 Cannes Yachting Festival, this refurbishment program covers sailboats from its Beneteau, Jeanneau, and Lagoon brands.

The manufacturer primarily targets boats that are 7 to 14 years old, particularly those nearing the end of their service life in rental fleets. The goal is to enable them to continue operating or to prepare them for resale after undergoing technical upgrades.

Until now, these services have largely been provided by independent shipyards, maintenance companies, or the rental companies themselves. By developing its own service packages, Beneteau aims to capture a share of this business while capitalizing on its knowledge of the models and their technical specifications.
Refit packages starting at ?35,000 (excluding tax)
The program is based on a partially standardized renovation service. Each boat undergoes an inspection that includes 30 structural checkpoints and 150 functional checkpoints, accompanied by an expert assessment report.

Services include, among other things, the replacement of engines, saildrive systems, sails, and rigging, as well as work on sanitary systems, mooring systems, composite materials, and interior fittings. Options are available to upgrade the electronics, batteries, or certain comfort features.
The recommended retail prices start at ?35,000 (excluding tax) for the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440, compared to ?43,000 (excluding tax) for the Sun Odyssey 519. At Beneteau, the prices are listed at ?37,500 (excluding tax) for the Oceanis 46.1 and ?41,000 (excluding tax) for the Oceanis 51.1.

For Lagoon catamarans, prices range from ?50,000 (excluding tax) for the Lagoon 42, to ?66,000 (excluding tax) for the Lagoon 450, and ?116,000 (excluding tax) for the Lagoon 52. These prices reflect the basic specifications and may vary depending on options and any additional work required.
The manufacturer offers a 2-year warranty on refit work, engines, and new parts, subject to the applicable contractual terms.
The Rental Fleet Market
NEO is particularly geared toward rental companies, whose boats generally require major renovations after several years of operation. For these companies, the program can serve two purposes: extending the useful life of a vessel in the fleet or improving its condition before reselling it to a private individual.
The Beneteau Group has an extensive sales network among charter professionals, with approximately 600 partner companies listed worldwide. This fleet offers potential for developing a recurring refit business.

For larger vessels, particularly those over 50 feet, Beneteau plans to rely primarily on Boat Management Services (BMS) in Canet-en-Roussillon. Smaller boats could be serviced at various locations with the appropriate infrastructure.
The challenge lies in applying industrial methods to an activity where the condition of each boat may require specific work. Standardizing fixed-price packages should facilitate quoting, procurement, and planning, without eliminating the uncertainties inherent in renovation. The group aims for a gradual ramp-up, with an initial phase of around 100 boats refurbished per year and a long-term goal of 1,000 units annually.
A New Competitor for Refit Professionals
With NEO, Beneteau aims to maintain a presence in the value chain of its boats long after they are first sold. This development could strengthen its role in the used boat market, particularly among rental companies and dealers.
For independent shipyards and marine maintenance specialists, the entry of a manufacturer into this segment represents a shift in the competitive landscape. Beyond the environmental benefits associated with extending the lifespan of boats, NEO therefore represents an economic diversification for the group. Its success will depend on the Beneteau Group?s ability to offer competitive refurbishment services, meet deadlines, and demonstrate the added value of a refurbishment carried out as part of a manufacturer?s program.
