American builder Malibu Boats buys Saxdor shipyard for 150MÂeuros

American builder Malibu Boats announces the acquisition of Finnish Saxdor Yachts for 150 million euros. The transaction values the European brand at 7.2 times estimated EBITDA to the end of March 2026.

Malibu Boats continues its international expansion with the acquisition of Saxdor Yachts for around 150 MÂeuros, or nearly $175 million at the current price. The transaction represents a valuation of around 7.2 times estimated EBITDA for the twelve months to March 31, 2026. This acquisition marks a new milestone for the American manufacturer, which already owns eight brands, and strengthens its presence in the European powerboat market.

A fast-growing European brand

Founded in 2019 in Helsinki by Sakari Mattila, Saxdor has positioned itself in the adventure dayboat segment. The range is based on high-performance hulls, an assertive Scandinavian design and a functional approach to onboard comfort. In six years, the company has delivered over 2,000 boats worldwide, and employs over 800 people at its production sites in Finland and Poland. The 460 GTC model, recently presented, illustrates the brand's move upmarket.

Malibu Boats thus joins a fast-growing European brand, with an already structured industrial base and a well-developed distribution network in several key markets.

Commercial and industrial synergies

Erna Rusi, CEO of Saxdor, sees this operation as a change of scale. She sees a new phase of development and synergies to be explored between the two groups.

The agreement gives Malibu enhanced access to Saxdor's dealer network in Europe. In return, the Finnish brand will benefit from greater access to the American market, as well as from the American group's industrial capabilities and service network.

For Malibu, the operation also means establishing an industrial footprint in Europe, with production capacity in Finland and Poland. In a context of trade tensions and supply chain volatility, having several production bases is a lever for resilience.

Maintaining operational autonomy

Saxdor will operate as an independent entity within Malibu. The existing teams will remain in place, and no staffing changes have been announced. Current management remains at the helm, with Sakari Mattila retaining his role as Head Designer. This choice of autonomy aims to preserve the brand's product DNA and entrepreneurial dynamic, while benefiting from the financial and organizational structure of a listed group.
