MarineMax : 3 major investments in the yachting industry

Cruiser Yachts

The American yachting heavyweight has made public in the space of a week three major investments in the yachting industry, from boat production to digital services and a port yard.

A new yard for Intrepid Powerboats

The local newspaper Tampa Bay Times revealed on December 8, 2022 that MarineMax had been awarded a site near the St Pete-Clearwater airport in Florida. The American group, the largest boat dealer in the United States, has also diversified into the production of boats, through the purchase of Cruiser Yachts in May 2021 and Intrepid Powerboats in October 2021. It is for the latter brand that the yard plans to use the land.

Reportedly, the manufacturer plans to build a 12,200 m2 plant there, complete with a dock and a boat launch. The investment is estimated at $38 million. The infrastructure would complement Intrepid Powerboats' existing plants.

Creation of an entity dedicated to innovation

MarineMax also announced on December 7, 2022 the creation of New Wave Innovations, a structure dedicated to new technologies for yachting. Its purpose will be to invest in their development. Its first action was the purchase of the 75% that MarineMax did not yet own in Boatzon. The company in which MarineMax has invested since December 2021 is developing a 100% digital boat sales service to support existing dealers.

The Boatyard subsidiary, which develops software services and mobile applications to track maintenance and book technical service providers for boaters, is also joining New Wave Innovations.

Purchase of Midcoast Construction Enterprises

On December 5, 2022, the acquisition of Midcoast Construction Enterprises was announced. The company, based on the Florida coast, specializes in port works. It has the fleet of barges and cranes necessary for the construction and maintenance of marinas, an activity in which MarineMax is present, and was strengthened in 2022 via the acquisition of IGY Marinas. The Midcoast Construction site also allows the removal of large yachts for maintenance.

Through these 3 announcements, MarineMax is further consolidating its position in the American and global market.
