In just a few years, La Ciotat Shipyards has established itself on the Mediterranean coast as a major hub for superyacht refits in Europe. To consolidate this position in the face of rivals such as Genoa and Barcelona, SPL La Ciotat Shipyards has presented a 67 MÂeuros investment plan up to 2034.
67 million modernization program to 2034
The announced plan is twofold. Around 50 million euros will be devoted to infrastructure development and modernization, while 17 million euros will be spent on site upkeep and maintenance.
The particularity of this financing lies in its structure. Around 90% of investments are expected to be covered by SPL La Ciotat Shipyards' own resources, limiting recourse to public shareholders.
This work is part of a program launched several years ago to strengthen the industrial facilities and maintain the site's attractiveness to international refit players.
Infrastructure tailored to the needs of superyachts
The first planned operations concern the renovation of the historic industrial buildings. Renovation of the roofs and cladding of the large naves alone represents a budget of 5.5 MÂeuros.
These works will be accompanied by studies for the installation of photovoltaic surfaces, with a view to improving the energy efficiency of the site. The program also includes the renewal of the shipyard fencing at a cost of around 1.5 million euros. The aim of this operation is to reinforce the siteâ??s security, an important element for an activity that regularly welcomes very high-value yachts.
Site electrification at the heart of the investment plan
Another focus of the program is the reinforcement of electrical infrastructures. These operations represent an estimated investment of between 2 and 3 million euros.
The dockside power connection of ships is also a central element of the system. This solution enables yachts undergoing refit to switch off their generators and reduce emissions during their stay at the shipyard. The La Ciotat site already offers this service. Its maintenance and extension require an annual budget of between 2 and 3 million euros.
Yachting Village extension and new businesses expected
The investment plan also includes the extension of the Yachting Village, an area dedicated to companies specializing in refits.
Two new buildings will complement the three existing structures. They will house seven additional cells for new companies in the sector. Architectural studies have already begun. According to the site management, this development could lead to the installation of several additional companies and the creation of around one hundred jobs.
The challenge is to strengthen the industrial ecosystem present on the site, made up of companies specializing in yachting, electronics, mechanical engineering, painting and interior design. SPL La Ciotat Shipyards achieved sales of 19.3 million euros in 2025, up 3.7% on the previous year. The outlook for 2026 is for a level of activity close to 20 MÂeuros.
