Mercury Marine has inaugurated the extension of its Plant 7 in St. Cloud, Florida, adding 25,000 ft² of industrial space, or around 2,300 m², to its site specializing in the assembly of printed circuit boards, PCBs.
This extension will enable the installation of four new SMT (Surface Mount Technology) production lines dedicated to the assembly of electronic components. The project is expected to generate some 30 additional jobs over the next few years.
Ramping up electronic systems
The St. Cloud site is dedicated to the assembly of high-performance electronic boards for the group's propulsion systems. With this additional 2,300 m², Mercury is increasing its in-house capacity for the production of control modules and other critical electronic systems.
In today's outboard and inboard engines, electronics drive fuel injection, thermal management, digital interfaces and integrated control systems. PCB reliability directly conditions the performance and durability of propulsion systems.
By increasing in-house production, Mercury is strengthening its vertical integration. The aim is to improve quality control, shorten development times and secure intellectual property on strategic components.
A measured local impact
The project will create around 30 additional jobs in St. Cloud. The Florida site already occupies a central position in Mercury's North American industrial organization.
