RIB production in Ukraine: how Grand Boats stays on course

Despite the fighting and uncertainties, the Grand Boats shipyard continues to manufacture RIBs between Kharkiv and Lviv. Logistics organization, site diversification and distributor support have enabled us to maintain production for export.

The Ukrainian yard Grand Boats, specialized in top-of-the-range RIBs, continues to build and deliver its units from the Ukraine, despite the war. Between partial relocation, logistical reorganization and support for the international network, the shipyard's strategy is based on constant adaptability.

Partial activity maintained in Kharkiv

The city of Kharkiv, close to the Russian border, was one of the first to be hit by the offensives in February 2022. The Grand Boats shipyard, located there since 2001, closed for six weeks. However, production soon resumed, despite constant threats and regular bombardments.

To ensure the continuity of its activities, Grand Boats has opened a second industrial site near Lviv, close to the Polish border. This location in western Ukraine aims to secure production away from conflict zones. The new site also provides housing for displaced employees.

Priority given to export markets

With almost 90% of sales destined for international markets, Grand Boats has been able to maintain business thanks to its partners abroad. The support of distributors, the acceptance of extended lead times and the taking of stock despite the risks were decisive factors. At the same time, the company opened up new markets in Australia, Italy, the Baltic States and Spain.

Reorganized logistics in the face of blockades

The conflict disrupted the entire logistics chain. The Black Sea blockade interrupted sea shipments from Ukrainian ports. Grand Boats set up alternative routes via neighboring European Union ports. The reduced availability of road transport was also offset by partnerships with Ukrainian carriers.

Despite the difficulty of innovating in this context, Grand Boats launched a new model, the Golden Line G680, and made several improvements to its existing models. Technical collaboration with Scanstrut has enabled us to integrate more modern electronic solutions on board.

Dynamic support for the industry

The Grand Boats story illustrates the resilience of the Ukrainian marine industry. Suppliers extended payment terms and adapted their prices. Some distributors have welcomed the families of displaced employees. The shipyard even anticipates the launch of a new model in the coming weeks.

With supply lead times stabilized and logistics costs down, Grand Boats has managed to maintain its business while preserving its industrial base in Ukraine.
