Performance Marine Group inaugurates yard to produce Olympic ILCAs in Australia

Performance Marine Group has opened a new 2,100 m² production facility in Morisset, north of Sydney, dedicated to the manufacture of ILCA Olympic dinghies. This is a milestone for the Australian yachting industry, which is relocating production of competition boats in a context of strong global demand.

An industrial shipyard dedicated to the ILCA Olympic class

On June 11, 2025, Australian boatbuilder Performance Marine Group (PMG) inaugurated a new production facility in Morisset, New South Wales. This 2,100 m² (23,000 sq. ft.) industrial building specializes in the manufacture of ILCAs, one-design dinghies homologated for the Olympic Games. Over 50 units are currently in production on the site.

The decision to relocate production to Australia was in response to the continuing growth in demand, both locally and internationally. PMG's aim is to guarantee short delivery times and enhanced quality control for a fleet in constant technical evolution.

Composite materials and advanced processes

The Morisset shipyard incorporates cutting-edge technologies, particularly in carbon processing. These innovations are enabling PMG to develop a new range of high-performance dinghies, scheduled for release by the end of the year.

The mastery of composite processes and the integration of high-strength materials are among the company's strategic development priorities. This offers greater customization capability, while meeting the requirements of the ILCA International Class Association and national federations.

Local roots and training the next generation

In addition to the industrial stakes, PMG is banking on local employment. Six jobs were created as soon as the site opened, and others are expected to follow as the production rate increases. The shipyard also participates in a program for high-school students, who are integrated once a week into production teams as part of an introduction to the nautical sector.

This approach marks a clear commitment to the transmission and creation of a sector, on the scale of a region historically little associated with the nautical industry, but with a pool of qualified manpower.

Two complementary poles: light sailing and offshore

Performance Marine Group is structured around two distinct entities: Performance Sailcraft and Performance Powercraft. Performance Sailcraft brings together all activities related to light sailing, with over 70 years of expertise in the production of ILCAs (formerly Laser), as well as Byte and Byte CII class boats.

Performance Powercraft, for its part, focuses on ocean-going speed and endurance boats. We are notably responsible for the development of the Thunder Child II, a record-breaking trimaran sailed by the 54 Knots Endurance Team, which aims for extreme performance in ocean conditions.

With the opening of this new facility in Morisset, Performance Marine Group strengthens its foothold in Australia, while positioning itself as a key player in international boatbuilding. At a time when demand for reliable, high-performance Olympic boats is exploding, the choice of local production and technological innovation seems to be a coherent and sustainable response.
