Perini Navi: The superyacht shipyard struggles to attract buyers

The Perini Navi shipyard struggles to interest buyers

Put up for auction in July 2021, the bankrupt shipyard Perini Navi has not found a buyer. More details on the next steps for the famous Italian superyacht and tall ship shipyard.

Failure of the auction of Perini Navi

In cash flow difficulties for several years, the Perini Navi shipyard, a specialist in sailing superyachts, has undergone several rescue attempts. It was finally declared bankrupt in January 2021. Since then, there have been many takeover hypotheses, mentioning big names in yachting, such as The Italian Sea Group, Palumbo Superyachts or the Ferretti and San Lorenzo shipyards, associated in a specially created joint venture. However, the hopes of the employees and the administrator were dashed when the shipyard and its sites in Viareggio and La Spezia were put up for auction. The group's other shipyard, located in Turkey, had already been sold to a local steel manufacturer for 30.6 million euros. By the deadline of July 30, 2021, no offer had been made.

A lowered rate and a new sale of the site in September

After this failure, the administrator has set a new date for the auction of the yard. A second attempt will take place on 30 September 2021. The base price has been lowered from 62.5 Meuros to 56.25 Meuros, i.e. a decrease of 10% of the estimate. A deposit of 10 Meuros is required. It remains to be seen whether the investors will consider the revision sufficient. The shipyard currently has 5 boats awaiting finalization, for several months now. The judicial process also foresees the recovery of the 75 employees still under contract with Perini Navi.
