With 40 companies and approximately 900 jobs, the Canet-en-Roussillon marine industry cluster now lacks the space needed to continue its growth. A 20.6-million-euro expansion project is intended to accommodate new businesses. Local authorities have set a long-term goal of creating 2,000 jobs.

A water sports center that has reached capacity

The Canet-en-Roussillon marine industry hub is set to enter a new phase of development in the spring of 2027. The Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole urban community plans to expand the area dedicated to the marine industry, which currently faces a shortage of land. According to published reports, the project represents an investment of 20.6 million euros. The site currently hosts 40 companies and supports approximately 900 jobs, 500 of which are associated with Catana.

New spaces to accommodate businesses

The expansion is intended to create new space for water sports businesses and support the growth of those already established in the area. The project also includes facilities for boat construction and launching. Completion is scheduled for June 2028. Local authorities anticipate that the water sports hub will eventually generate 2,000 jobs and generate revenue exceeding one billion euros.

An Industrial Challenge for Canet-en-Roussillon

Beyond the site development, the project aims to consolidate an industrial hub specializing in the boating industry, particularly in the construction of multihulls. It is also intended to help restore capacity following the July 2025 fire that damaged Catana?s facilities. For Canet-en-Roussillon and Perpignan Méditerranée Métropole, the challenge is therefore land-use, industrial, and economic: securing sufficient space to enable the local boating industry to continue growing.
