IDB Marine : A successful reorganization for bigger boats

After a year of transition and moving, the IDB Marine shipyard is reintroducing sailboat models to its catalog. A new organization which combines the success in the manufacture of Mini 6.50 of series and prospects to develop again in the cruising.

Successful transition

In October 2022, Denis Bourbigot, founder of IDB Marine announced the relocation of his activity, the limitation of the offer to Mojito and Maxi 650, and its concentration on a single site in the port of Concarneau explaining: "You have to know how to reduce the sail" . A year and a half later, the sailboat builder from Concarneau is reaping the benefits of this choice, after this time "under reduced canopy" which he has taken advantage of to organize himself, notably with a paint booth, a winter storage area and better equipped buildings. He believes that he has made a successful transition to a more comfortable working environment and good working conditions, as he had hoped for in 2022.

50th Maxi 6.50

However, the shipyard has not been idle, and has continued the beautiful history of the Maxi 650. The 50th unit of this serial Mini was launched in January 2023. In parallel, two carbon prototypes were built in the molds for Frerots Sailing by Thaïs Le Cam, Julien Letissier and Valentin Noël. The cruising version, the Mojito 650 with the panoramic roof typical of the range, has also reached its public, with 6 boats in the water and evolutions for more comfort. Denis Bourbigot explains: "We're putting out about one Mojito for every two Maxi 650s."

A range of linen cruise ships

For the shipyard, it's time to send back the canvas gradually. IDB Marine is thus returning more strongly to the cruising market, by re-launching the marketing of the Mojito 888. But the shipyard is asserting its positioning for a more sustainable cruising, by choosing to offer the sailboat in flax fiber as standard. Denis Bourbigot explains: "We only keep 5 to 10 percent of glass fibers, in the areas that work in shear." . A mainsail with horn is announced as standard, as well as an electric motorization in option.
