X-Yachts France : a Breton buyer for the Danish yachts

The distribution of X-Yachts in France is changing hands. Jean-Luc Chalant is handing it over to Olivier Michaud, head of the Ateliers d'Olivier and the Kervilor shipyard in La Trinité-sur-Mer. The protagonists explain the objectives of this transfer.

New distributor for X-Yachts France

The famous Danish sailing yachts X-Yachts are changing their representative in France. Jean-Luc Chalant, head of Amati Yacht Services, will hand over distribution to Olivier Michaud on December 1, 2022. The latter, based in La Trinité-sur-Mer, is the founder of Ateliers d'Olivier in 2005, which provides painting and maintenance services. Since 2017, he has also taken over the Kervilor maintenance yard. Along with the distribution of the brand, Olivier Michaud is taking over the team and the Mediterranean headquarters in Port Grimaud, consisting of 2 people.

Revitalize the brand in France

This change of distributor is the opportunity to give back dynamism to X Yachts in France, as the two men explain. Jean-Luc Chalant explains: "With age and time, you don't necessarily have the same sales drive, such as picking up the phone for post-show follow-ups. The brand needed a commercial relaunch." For Olivier Michaud, the energy is also motivated by his attachment to the brand: "I am fulfilling a small dream by selling X-yachts. We realize that there are many X-yachts in France that have reached the age of refit or disposal. I want to find the X-community and energize it by being mobile, in La Rochelle, the Mediterranean, South Brittany, where the boats are."

A technical yard to maintain the boats

For Olivier Michaud, it is also an opportunity to complete the activity of his sites, while bringing a plus to the X community, as he details in conclusion. "After the adventure of the takeover of Kervilor in 2017 we have grown the shipyard with the development of composite repairs and maintenance. All that was missing was a beautiful brand. Bringing it back to La Trinité where it had an office until 2014 is quite symbolic. And as we have all the trades on site at Kervilor, we will be able to prepare the boats on site, maintain them, deliver them in Brittany or the Mediterranean, which will simplify things."
