eWinchControl, an intelligent and powerful motor to electrify a winch

Why launch an electric motor when you already market an electric crank? The answer from eWincher surprised us at METS 2022. Here is the eWinchControl which offers a modern, safe and efficient solution that could be installed under any winch on the market.

eWincher has made a name for itself by producing an electric winch crank. This one has many advantages: light despite the onboard battery, great autonomy, variable speed at the trigger, two directions of rotationâeuros¦ To argue on its usefulness, the company told us that this crank adaptable on all winches on board avoided the installation of one or more electric winches. But now, at the METS Trade 2022, eWincher is presenting its electric winch!

eWinchControl, THE electric motorization

The electric motor which is installed under the winch

To be exact, it is not an electric winch, but rather a motorization to electrify a winch. eWinchControl fits on the major winch brands (Harken, Lewmar, Antalâeuros¦). It is a horizontal motor of 1200 W in 30 V with a very good performance. This solution allows to be 35 to 70 times faster than commercial electric winches. Without having a big electrical consumption.

A battery separate from the motor

The motor is powered by its own 30 V battery with integrated charger. Thus the wiring between the motor and the battery, 4 m of cable delivered as standard, does not require a large section. Moreover, the battery is connected to the 12 V circuit on board by simple cables like all the other equipment on board. This intermediate battery avoids the peaks of intensity at the starting which oblige to have a strong section of cable.

An intelligent control box

The motor is controlled by a box. For safety reasons, the user must press a button in addition to the trigger to avoid any misuse. The trigger is progressive, it regulates the speed of rotation of the winch. This unit includes programs with maximum torque settings. For example, the mainsail halyard has a maximum torque of 120 kg at high speed and 240 kg at low speed. If the halyard jams, the motor stops instantly with the display "Max load exceeded". This is a safety feature not offered by the usual electric winches, which always require skill and experience to avoid breaking something. It is possible to create as many programs as desired to manage the different maneuvers. This box is Wifi compatible with an application used for its programming, depending on the winch model used, and its maintenance.

No price list yet for the commercialization

Today the eWinchControl is not commercialized. Indeed, its inventor Bruno Rabu took advantage of the METS 2022 to present it to various winch manufacturers and test their reactions. Although it is technically mature at this stage, the marketing phase could take several forms. It remains to be defined which ones?
