La Ciotat : MB92 will invest over 20 years for the refit in the big shape

Grande Forme of La Ciotat

The MB92 La Ciotat shipyard has been awarded the concession for the Grande Forme of the Mediterranean port. As a result, it is announcing a series of investments in employment and infrastructure for refit and large-scale yachting in the city of Bouches du Rhône.

A long concession for the Grande Forme of La Ciotat

The large yacht landscape in La Ciotat has experienced turbulence in recent years after the ousting of historical local players, to the benefit of the Lürssen shipyard, then Blohm+Voss, and finally the arrival of the Catalan MB92. As a result, the last concessions for the operation of the Grande Forme de radoub, a key infrastructure of the port site managed by the semi-public company La Ciotat Shipyards, had favored short durations, until the launch of a new procedure in early 2022.

The process finally resulted in the renewal of the concession to MB92, in place since 2017. However, the concession is now for a period of 20 years, until 2042. The Barcelona-based shipyard has been awarded, for its La Ciotat site, the operation of the large Radoub dock and adjacent spaces, including the covered C aisle and half of the B aisle, as well as the open spaces. The total surface area is 38,000 m².

Modernizing the port infrastructures of Ciotaden

The Spanish company presented with its application an investment plan of 20 million euros over 20 years. The majority of this investment will be dedicated to improving infrastructure, reducing environmental impact and ensuring the safety of workers on the site. 45 million has already been invested, notably in the 4,300-ton boat elevator, which is scheduled to come into service in September 2022.

Nautical job in La Ciotat

The MB92 group also intends to participate in the economic life of the local nautical and yachting industry. It claims that 70% of the turnover linked to subcontracting on the sites carried out concern companies in the Southern Region. It intends to strengthen these ties and participate in the local training of future employees of the yachting industry, as its president Pepe García-Aubert emphasizes. "Being able to offer career opportunities to young talent and working alongside local training organizations will help strengthen this link with our traditions and promote the professionalization of our sector. The development of the site represents great prospects for everyone, bringing a lasting positive impact to the entire municipality, county and region."
