Crazy Lobster: New premises designed for composites and boating

The Crazy Lobster company has moved to new premises in the port of Le Légué. A building designed both for the production of quality composite parts and for the reception of boats under construction, as Etienne Heude, an engineer with the company, explains.

New buildings for Crazy Lobster

The young shipyard Crazy Lobster, founded by Tual Le Guillerm, has moved into its new buildings, specially constructed on the port of Le Légué in the Côtes d'Armor. The investment is about 500 000euros for its new infrastructures, which are in line with the local will to develop activities related to boating in the Saint-Brieuc region. "We moved into the facility in September 2021. The 500 square meter building, specially built for us, is located in the same street as the ones we were renting. It was thought for our use, with a gray room, dedicated to composites and infusion in which we control all the parameters of humidity and temperature, a room for cutting fabrics and a room for carpentry with the machines and ventilation elements for dust. The rooms are on the mezzanine and on the ground floor, we kept a large space to be able to bring in boats." explains Etienne Heude, in charge of studies at Crazy Lobster.

A 3D printer has also been acquired for the manufacture of parts with specific geometries and for prototyping.

To meet the demands of ocean racing and yachtsmen in search of performance

Above all a specialist in composites, Crazy Lobster keeps the possibility to develop its nautical activities. The company now employs 7 people. The shipyard has notably worked on the test catamaran of the ACCWing rigid wing project , carried by Philippe Marcovich and Hugues de Turckheim. For this multihull, he made a 17-meter carbon mast with non-constant sections. He also produced several parts for Antoine Carpentier and Renaud Courbon's Class 40. "With this building and its ground floor space of 30 meters by 12 meters wide, we have the possibility to bring in large boats for refits and construction. Class 40s or 60s, for example. We also work for yachtsmen who have refit projects for their boats, but always with a view to improving performance with our composite parts says Etienne Heude.
