Special Edition / Dream Racer Boats: A know-how in the development of pleasure boats

Interior of a sailboat refurbished by Dream Racer Boats

Surfing on the refit wave of Figaro 2, the young company Dream Racer Boats has built up a know-how in the development of pleasure boats in all its variety. An experience on which it builds a tailor-made and structured offer for boaters and professionals, from design to installation.

The Dream Racer Boats concept

When he created his company in 2018, Thibaud Ramond identified his initial objective: to give a second youth to sailboats that have scoured the regatta waterways and offshore racing starts. Dream Racer Boats has since offered to boaters who have purchased a sports boat, for cruising or amateur racing use, to refurbish them to adapt them to their new program. It is now also aimed at motor boat owners who want to lighten their boats to reduce their fuel consumption or builders looking for a customised outfitter. This can be done by adding bunk beds, a kitchen or equipment and textile storage to maintain the sailboat's performance. Particular attention is paid to the choice of materials for optimal performance while maintaining an eco-responsible approach. Depending on the customer's choice, Dream Racer Boats can carry out the work from A to Z or deliver a kit to be installed on the boat.

1st year: From Figaro 2 to the diversity of yachting

Marked by the 1st season of the Figaro 3 race, 2019 was also the year of the change of hands of the Figaro 2. Partly at the origin of the creation of Dream Racer Boats, the transition gave the company the opportunity to sign 6 boats. 4 of them were completely refurbished by the site while 2 moving kits were delivered to customers for installation by them. The company has not limited itself to the famous one-design and is now working on the entire spectrum of boating. Dream Racer Boats assists its customers in the choice of materials by respecting the colour codes chosen by the yachtsman.

"It was a springboard to demonstrate our abilities and our ability to respond to customers with tailor-made solutions," explains Thibaud Ramond. As a result, a work site was also carried out on a First 30R, completely exposed. Dream Racer Boats has installed new cabins, a kitchen with a removable fridge for the regatta, a matossing area. "We divided the weight of the fittings by 3, keeping the modularity to be able to easily replace the furniture in the future. The ergonomics of the chart table has been redesigned to pass the legs underneath and avoid turning too much and having back pain. The equipment is removable so that it can be switched to race mode. A textile partition was added to separate the front tip and the table from the saloon was modified to obtain an additional bed for 2 crew members by lowering it," says the company's founder.

Continue structuring the refit offer

A member of the SCIC Finistère Mer Vent, Dream Racer Boats should set up an office there as soon as the buildings in Port La Forêt open. "This allows us to structure ourselves and separate the workshop from the offices," explains Thibaud Ramond. In addition to the refit of JOD 35 in the order book and the redevelopment projects for Class 40, multihulls and motor boats under study, Dream Racer Boats continues to build its offer, diversifying the profile of the boats studied. A database of refit projects, quantified and pre-studied, should be created for targeted boats in the second-hand market. The online shop already offers some ideas to stimulate and facilitate the reflection of boaters.
