Between growth and rationalization: Sunseeker reviews its industrial strategy

Faced with a slowdown in global demand and continuing economic uncertainties, Sunseeker International is embarking on a restructuring plan that could affect up to 200 jobs in the UK.

Sunseeker shipyard, based in Poole and Portland, in the south of England, has just confirmed a reorganization of its support, executive and management functions. The stated aim is to improve overall efficiency and adapt the organization to future market requirements. The measure could result in the loss of around 10% of the workforce, or almost 200 positions.

Strategic adjustment in a tense market environment

In its press release, the company's management refers to a desire to "realign resources" to better respond to changing demand. This announcement comes in a climate of general uncertainty, marked by a downturn in sales in several high-end yachting segments.

Andrea Frabetti, Sunseeker's CEO since 2019, justifies this decision by the need to "preserve the long-term health of the company" while ensuring the maintenance of activity at the historic Poole and Portland production sites. He insists on the desire to "support local employment" despite the structural adjustments to come.

A site committed to innovation despite turbulence

Sunseeker, which has delivered over 130 yachts in 2024 according to internal data, intends to continue its product development efforts. A new superyacht program was presented earlier this year, including units exceeding 40 meters.

The brand, a subsidiary of the Chinese Wanda group since 2013, remains positioned in the luxury motor yacht segment, with a strong presence in the British, Mediterranean and North American markets. The restructuring does not affect current deliveries, the shipyard assures.

A process governed by legislation

In accordance with UK employment law, a mandatory 45-day consultation period with affected employees has been launched. Management has stated that it intends to conduct this phase "with openness and respect", and is providing individual support for affected employees.
