Vision Marine : The electric outboard manufacturer targets original equipment boats

Vision Marine wants to sell its electric outboards as original equipment

Canadian engine manufacturer Vision Marine Technologies has announced a technical partnership to open up its range of high-powered electric outboard motors to shipyards as original equipment. A further step towards industrialization.

Partnership Vision Marine Technologies - MacLaren Engineering

The Canadian company Vision Marine Technologies, which has been marketing electric boats since 2014, had announced in April 2021 its intention to enter the electric outboard motor market with the E180, with a power of 180 horsepower. In October 2021, it took another step in the direction with the signing of an agreement with McLaren Engineering, a member of the Linamar Group, to manufacture and supply its motors. This new partner employs more than 26,000 employees at 60 production sites worldwide. McLaren Engineering's development teams will work on testing, tooling development and adaptation of Vision Marine's E-Motion technology for mass production. Mass production will take place at Linamar's Canadian facility.

Towards electric outboard motors as original equipment

In accordance with its first announcements, Vision Marine is giving itself the means to equip electric boats as soon as they leave the factory. An objective that Alexandre Mongeon, co-founder of the company, reaffirms. "This agreement is a founding event for the large-scale marketing of our E-Motion motorization technology. We believe that our partnership with Linamar/McLaren validates our proprietary technology and positions Vision Marine to increase production in order to meet the growing demand from the major yachting OEMs who will be asking us to deliver thousands of electric outboards. We are in ongoing discussions with many manufacturers. "
