METS Trade, a new edition in December 2020

METS Trade Fair

The organisers of METS Trade, the world's largest trade show for the marine industry, have announced that a digital edition will be held in December 2020. It will be accompanied by an equally new version of the DAME Design Award.

A digital version of METS Trade

Like the majority of boat shows for the general public, the annual event for yachting professionals, METS Trade has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Scheduled for November in Amsterdam, the physical event, bringing together exhibitors and visitors from around the world, could not be held due to transport restrictions and health risks associated with the outbreak. The organizers announced on 29 September the launch of an alternative, all-digital event. METSTrade Connect will be held on the internet on 10 December 2020. Organised in partnership with ICOMIA, IBI and Superyacht Report, this virtual event will offer a series of "TechTalks" of conferences dedicated to technological developments, innovation, sustainable development and the situation of the industry and its challenges in the face of the economic crisis.

A unique DAME Design Award

While the Covid-19 crisis has slowed down many development projects in the marine industry, it has also allowed some to focus on innovation. Although the 30th edition of the DAME Design Award has been postponed to 2021, its organisers wanted to maintain an award in 2020. The DAME R&D Excellence in Adversity Award will be presented at METSTrade Connect 2020. It will reward a project carried out by a boating company between 1 January and 28 October 2020, despite the Covid-19. "An analytical study and emotional response" will be used to determine the winner.
