Suzuki Marine, Bénéteau, Carboman, Lorima, SMM and North Sails have made the news in recent days.

Suzuki wins IBEX award

Suzuki Marine won an innovation award for its new DF350 A outboard engine at IBEX. The award, presented by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) at the North American Motor Show, recognizes the most powerful outboard engine ever produced by Suzuki, reaching 350 hp. It was launched in spring 2017 by the Japanese brand.

2 new Italians at the head of Bénéteau

Carla Demaria is leaving her position as CEO of Bénéteau, which she had held since 2004. It is replaced by a two-management team headed by Gianguido Girotti, Bénéteau's current marketing director, and Luca Brancaleon, the brand's current sales director. Carla Demaria will remain a member of the Bénéteau Group management board and will now devote herself entirely to the presidency of the Monte Carlo Yachts brand and that of UCIN - Confindustria Nautica, the Italian professional boaters' union.

Carboman and Lorima join forces to take over SMM Technologies

The Carboman group, owner of the Multiplast shipyard in Vannes and the Lorima mast manufacturer from Lorraine have joined forces to take over SMM Technologies. The company, based in Lanester, which has top-of-the-range industrial tools, produces composite parts and notably moulds for numerous companies in the nautical and automotive industries. It had been placed in judicial liquidation on 31 July 2017.

North Sails, new sails for the Volvo Ocean Race

North Sails, exclusive sail supplier for the Volvo Ocean Race since 2014, has announced the design of new sails for the 2017/2018 round the world crewed race. The wardrobe has been modified. All sails are produced in 3Di. The gennaker, formerly made in Cuben Fiber is now produced in 3Di Force. A new flat sail, rigged at the head, the Olympic Games complete the sailing game.
