Launched in 2022, Nauticademy wants to bring a new approach to the teaching of steering rules, with a fun and practical aspect. Its founder Arthur Le Grel explains the interests of the solution.

Learn the rules of the bar by playing

Maritime regulations can be daunting. Learning in a 100% theoretical way, by pure cramming, has its limits and can put off more than one aspiring sailor. That's why Arthur Le Grel imagined a board game, serving as a support for learning the rules of steering. After 3 years of development, he founded his company, Nauticademy in November 2022. "Our goal is to develop educational tools, but always keeping a playful aspect. With our board, we work on the rules of the helm, the buoyage, the flags, the weather, the marine chart, the radar pointing..."

Customized versions for customers

The first trays were sold to high schools in Paimpol and Guilvinec. Nauticademy mainly offers its products to training centers of maritime professionals, but Arthur Le Grel also sees an outlet for school boats: " They have their methods in place to prepare for the exam, but Nauticademy can be a tool for further study."

Depending on the needs, the tray can be sold in different sizes. The customer also chooses the included elements, which can be up to 800 parts, 3D printed. It is necessary to count a budget going from 3 000 euros, up to 8 000 euros HT.

More developments to come

Nauticademy continues to expand its edutainment proposals for the training of sailors. Software for eLearning are under development, but still linked to the physical tool. They will focus on stability and ship's lights.

The young company is optimistic about the future, as its founder explains in conclusion: "We are already in two maritime high schools and have over a dozen quotes in progress."
