FinX: A propeller-less thruster for a reliable boat and safe navigation

Outboard Fin5

The Finx electric outboard motor has no propeller but a membrane. A technology that will appeal to boating professionals on both a technical and operational level.

The FinX strat-up has developed an innovative marine propulsion system. Driven by an electric motor, a simple moving membrane allows the boat to move forward. The Fin5, an outboard motor with an electric power of 2kW, is the first born of the range in development, a model of higher power (150 hp) should see the day.

A safe system for boaters and operators

In addition to its electric motorization, which corresponds to the expectations of new boaters, the absence of a propeller is a key advantage of FinX. "It is the guarantee of a maximum safety, in particular for rental companies, tourist offices or restaurants on the quay. You can swim around and touch the membrane during operation without any risk" says Harold Guillemin, founder of FinX.

Easy to maintain

FinX technology also has advantages over the life of the motor. The absence of rotating parts limits the number of wear parts. "There is also no risk of catching bits or fishing line in the propeller and subsequently damaging the base, creating water ingress that would eventually damage the motor. There is a real advantage in terms of maintenance," says the manager.

In addition, the company relies on European production. Two-thirds of the production is carried out in France, the remaining third being made up of parts supplied as much as possible in Europe.

A global solution

Beyond the engine, FinX offers a complete solution to its customers. The company offers its own 48V batteries for storing electricity on the boat. It also works on related services. A web interface coupled with on-board sensors allows real-time monitoring of the boat. A boat rental company, fleet manager, can visualize the parameters of autonomy, speed of the boat, but also monitor the impacts. He can thus harmonize the navigation time of his different boats, but also use the device to protect his Fin5 from theft risks.

The public price of a Fin5 is 2 500euros HT.
