Garmin acquires Vesper Marine

Electronics brand Garmin made official the acquisition of New Zealand-based Vesper Marine on January 3, 2022. The company, based in Auckland in 2007, was created by Deirdre Schleigh and Jeff Robbins after 7 years of sailing on their boat Vesper, in association with Carl Omundsen, an electronic designer. Aware of the risks of collision during their journey, they have since developed intelligent products around its VHF and AIS systems, called WatchMate and Cortex. These products combine the functions of communication at sea and safety. Vesper Marine also offers mobile applications for boat monitoring.

Financial details of the transaction remain confidential. Vesper Marine's teams will join Garmin's teams in New Zealand.

Together with the Vesper team, we look forward to providing our customers with an unparalleled portfolio of integrated marine communication products and services," said Jarrod Seymourn, vice president of Garmin's marine segment.
