Marinelec Technologies celebrates its 50th anniversary and sets out its ambitions to accelerate growth

Quimper-based Marinelec Technologies is celebrating half a century of innovation in the field of maritime safety. With the creation of the Ecomer Group, the Breton company aims to triple its sales in seven years, by focusing on digitalization, energy efficiency and an international expansion strategy.

A company founded on the challenges of safety at sea

Born in 1975 from Roland Lemesle's desire to develop alarm systems for fishing vessels, Marinelec Technologies has evolved to become a recognized player in the design of onboard electronic solutions for maritime safety. Vigilance control, technical alarms, fire detection, navigation light management, bridge watch: today, the company offers a complete range of equipment for all types of vessels, from trawlers to liners.

Based in Quimper, the company employs 22 people and equips around a thousand boats worldwide every year. In 2024, sales totaled 4.8 million euros, 40% of which was generated by exports.

A new dynamic driven by the Ecomer Group

Since its takeover in 2022 by Geoffroy Lacoin, supported by Jean Brossollet, Marinelec has embarked on an in-depth transformation. In 2023, the two executives founded Ecomer Data, a Nantes-based subsidiary dedicated to ship energy performance. Together, Marinelec and Ecomer Data now form the Ecomer Group, which aims to triple its sales by 2032, through technological innovation and external growth.

Ecomer Data develops on-board data collection and analysis systems to optimize energy consumption and reduce pollutant emissions. The aim is to equip 1,000 vessels (fishing, river, services, etc.) by 2030. Some fifty boats have already been equipped in the first year of operation.

A strategy focused on international expansion and diversification

The Group's determination to conquer new markets is also expressed abroad. An office was opened in Spain in early 2025, and a sales presence was strengthened in Asia with the recruitment of a technical sales engineer. Exports, which now account for 40% of sales, are set to play a central role in the Group's growth.

Marinelec, historically anchored in the fishing industry, has seen this activity fall below 6% of its sales. Today, the main markets are passenger and commercial vessels (54%), offshore units (15%), unarmed military vessels (7%), as well as yachts and service boats.

A strong regional and industrial base

With 100% French production and a site based in Quimper, Marinelec retains its strong regional and industrial roots. Each year, the company invests 15% of its sales in R&D to maintain its technological lead. The recent arrival of BPI France and Mer Invest in the group's capital, with an investment of 1.2 million euros, confirms the solidity of the project.

As Marinelec Technologies celebrates its 50th anniversary, it's not just looking in the rear-view mirror. The Ecomer group has a clear ambition: to combine technical excellence with maritime energy transition. A dynamic supported by industrial partnerships, constant investment in innovation and a forward-looking vision.
