DAME Design Award: 30th Anniversary Marine Equipment Selected

A few weeks before the opening of METS Trade 2021, the international trade show for marine equipment manufacturers, the DAME Design Award jury has released the names of the 53 products selected for the finals of the 30th yachting innovation competition. From the electric motor to the 600 HP outboard motor, from the eco-responsible sail furler to the toilet and the flight controller for hydrofoil boats, there is something for every boater.

The DAME Design Award, which has become a worldwide yachting institution, will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2021. After a virtual 2020 edition, renamed R&D Excellence in adversity After winning the first prize for the Temo electric motor, the yachting equipment innovation competition made its physical return to the METSTrade in Amsterdam. The 8-member jury, chaired by Andre Hoek, selected 53 entries from the 103 submitted from 25 countries. The selected innovations will be displayed in a dedicated DAME Award area in hall 6 and the new METSTrade TV will present regular broadcasts about the winners. The winners will be announced at the opening breakfast on November 16, 2021.

The shortlist of the DAME Award established by the jury includes 7 categories around the following themes

  • Marine electronics and related software
  • Interior equipment, furniture, material and electrical equipment used in the cabins
  • Equipment for marinas and boatyards, Tools and materials for boat building
  • Deck equipment, Sails, Rigging
  • Clothing and accessories for the crew
  • Rescue and safety equipment
  • Machine, propulsion, mechanical and electrical systems and equipment

Among the major trends, we can note the numerous systems dedicated to energy, from the hydrogen cell to the battery systems, but also the research on materials and environmental impact.
