Heavy material damage and one injured in the fire at a dry port in Ventiseri, in Upper Corsica.

27 boats destroyed and one injured

A fire broke out during the night of Sunday 8 to Monday 9 January 2017 on the median of the company Corse Nautic Service. This one welcomed for the wintering more than forty pleasure boats.

Alerted around 3am, firefighters fought the fire all night, still in a dangerous situation with composite boats containing full fuel tanks. One firefighter among the forty or so fire soldiers mobilized was slightly injured on the eardrums following the explosion of a fuel tank.

The first assessment shows that 27 pleasure boats between 6 and 8 metres were destroyed or partially affected by the incident. 16 boats would have been spared the flames.

Cause of fire to be determined

The investigation into the causes of the fire was entrusted to the research brigade of the Ghisonaccia gendarmerie. To date, all the hypotheses remain officially open, from the electrical short circuit to the squat via the criminal trail. According to our colleagues at France 3, the latter is favoured by investigators. Numerous fires have taken place in dry ports in Corsica in the last two years, starting with that of two ships destroyed by fire in a dry area of Solaro on 4 December 2016.
