500,000 %C2euros contributed by industrial partners
Playa Rent has reached a new milestone in its financing. The company has raised 800,000 %C2euros, including 500,000 %C2euros in equity from industry partners.
The remaining 300,000%C2euros consists of non-dilutive financing, notably government grants. The Brittany Region is contributing approximately 100,000%C2euros to the project.
The identities of the investors, the precise breakdown of other financing, and the valuation used for the transaction were not disclosed in the available information.
This funding is intended to support the business growth of Playa Rent, which aims to install more stations in ports and expand its operations internationally. The target countries and the deployment schedule have yet to be specified.
An automated rental model designed for operators
Playa Rent is developing rental stations that allow customers to rent water sports equipment without the need for a staff member to be present at all times.
The user scans a QR code, accesses an interface on their phone, enters their contact information, and follows the procedure to unlock the equipment. The company states that access requires neither a prior reservation nor downloading an app.
The model is primarily intended for managers of water sports facilities, ports, local governments, and tourism operators. They can choose from the available equipment options and set their own rates.
According to Playa Rent, operators keep all of the revenue generated by rentals. However, the acquisition costs of the stations, maintenance contracts, and operating expenses must be taken into account when assessing their actual profitability.
The company's website already lists stations in several regions of France, notably in Brittany, along the Atlantic coast, and along the Mediterranean coast. The exact number of stations in operation has not been confirmed.
Marinas: A New Market for Diversification
In addition to renting kayaks and paddleboards, Playa Rent is looking to develop services specifically for boaters.
With Boaty'nGo, the company offers shared dinghy stations that can be installed on docks or pontoons. Boaters can borrow a boat and then return it to its secure mooring.
This measure is aimed in particular at ports facing space constraints due to individual tenders.
Playa Rent has announced Tahe Outdoors, a manufacturer based in Vannes, as its partner for the supply of boats. However, the business context of this partnership warrants closer attention: Tahe Outdoors France has been in receivership since February 2026, with the deadline for submitting takeover bids set for October 30.
Another service offered by the company, Bib'nGo, is based on an automated life raft rental system. The stations would allow boaters to rent equipment for a set period of time, rather than purchasing it.
This service raises specific issues regarding equipment maintenance, traceability, and compliance. Playa Rent states that it offers inspection and maintenance services in accordance with the selected contracts. The specific operating conditions and the actual implementation of this offering have yet to be documented.
The company is also developing BeachWheel, a system that provides all-terrain and floating wheelchairs to facilitate access to beaches.
Growth to Be Realized in Ports and in Exports
With this diversification, Playa Rent is no longer limited to the water sports rental market. The company seeks to position its facilities as service providers for port and tourism infrastructure.
For managers, the potential benefits lie in the shared use of equipment, the expansion of services offered to users, and the ability to generate revenue without having to constantly deploy staff.
However, the model's viability will depend on equipment utilization rates, maintenance costs, seasonality, and site conditions.
The 800,000 euros announced will provide Playa Rent with additional resources to continue its growth. It remains to be seen how this will translate into the number of stations installed, port contracts, and international expansions.
