Volvo Penta's exclusive distributor in Brittany, Le Pocher Moteurs & Solutions, has entered a new phase in its development with the inauguration of a brand-new site in Mellac, Finistère. An investment of more than 2 million euros to support the growth of this long-established family business in the nautical sector.

A modernized industrial base to support growth

Established since 2003 in the Kervidanou business park, near Quimperlé, the company headed by Nicolas Le Pocher has recently consolidated its activities in a single 1,650 m² building, erected on a plot of over 5,500 m², in the immediate vicinity of the N165 expressway.

Designed to optimize logistics flows and working conditions, this new industrial facility features a 6-ton overhead travelling crane, a workshop with a resin floor, and a training room. Particular attention has been paid to ergonomics, lighting and internal circulation.

The company, which currently employs around 15 people, is aiming to increase its workforce to around 20 over the next few years.

A family business rooted in Brittany's maritime history

Founded in 1945 by Gilbert Le Pocher, a pioneer and Volvo Penta's first representative in France, the company initially developed in the maintenance of fishing boats in Southern Brittany.

Today, the third generation is at the helm, with Nicolas and his sister Frédérique Le Pocher, perpetuating the family roots while accompanying the transformation of the business.

While fishing is still a major part of the company's business, it has also diversified into yachting and, above all, the military sector, which now accounts for 70% of sales in professional marine motorization. Le Pocher Moteurs & Solutions works closely with major players such as Piriou, Naval Group and Gléhen.

A technological leap forward with Volvo Penta

This new investment is also in line with the technological evolution of the solutions offered. Long limited to power ratings below 1,000 hp, the company is now able to address more ambitious propulsion projects thanks to Volvo Penta's IPS (Inboard Performance System).

The capacities of these propulsion pods have continued to grow, enabling innovative hybrid configurations, such as combining diesel and electric motors on the same shaft line. This solution is particularly well-suited to today's challenges of repowering and energy transition.
