Lorient-based startup Sailiz announces a first round of funding of 200,000 Âeuros. Specializing in technical nautical clothing for women, the company intends to strengthen its product development tool and initiate its European expansion. An operation that illustrates the evolution of expectations in nautical equipment, both on the yachting side and the seafaring side.

Nautical equipment remains a segment where the offer has historically been designed for masculine uses and morphologies. In less than two years, Sailiz has positioned itself in this specific niche, and is now announcing a ?200,000 round of financing to structure its growth and broaden its scope of activity.

Raising funds to turn a corner

The transaction was carried out with the Bretagne Sud Angels club and several private investors. It consists of two tranches, the first of ?150,000, followed by a second of ?50,000 open to investors joining the project at a later date.

For Sailiz, this fund-raising marks a transition from a market validation phase to a structuring phase. The funds will be used to accelerate product development, strengthen the team and initiate commercial deployment outside France.

Targeted positioning in women's nautical equipment

Founded in May 2023 in Lorient by Solène Saclier, Sailiz was built on a simple observation: nautical technical equipment is mostly designed to male standards, with limited adaptations for women.

The brand's first product, technical dungarees, has already won over 200 customers. This model is based on a single-material design, PFC-free and fully recyclable, a technical choice that breaks with the current practices of specialized mass retailers.

Product development, from yachting to marine workwear

A significant part of the funds raised is dedicated to the development of new ranges. The ultra-light NEO dungarees, already on the market, target coastal boating and motorboating applications, with a focus on freedom of movement and weight reduction.

The range is set to expand with technical shorts and underwear, as well as a marine workwear line. The latter targets professionals working in marine environments, such as instructors, skippers, harbor workers, oyster farmers and maintenance teams. For the industry, this segment remains relatively unstructured, even though needs are specific and recurrent.

Repairability and product life cycles

Sailiz places reparability at the heart of the design of its new products. The aim is to extend the lifespan of garments and limit their environmental impact, a subject increasingly present in the specifications of professional players.

A repair service must accompany this approach. For companies and local authorities, this type of offer responds to economic and regulatory challenges, but also to growing expectations in terms of environmental responsibility.

Team structure and European openness

The fund-raising also includes the recruitment of a textile engineer to strengthen the company's R&D capacity. The aim of this reinforcement is to consolidate product innovation while maintaining eco-design choices.

On the sales front, Sailiz has set its sights on Europe, targeting markets such as the UK, Spain and Scandinavia. These are areas with a high level of nautical activity, and where sea-related professions represent a significant volume of potential users.
