Alterplast, a Breton workshop for custom tank and glazing design

Based in Morbihan, France, Alterplast designs and manufactures customized plastic parts for the marine industry. Tanks, portholes, windscreens and wear parts are designed for building sites, refit professionals and boat owners. A range designed for both maintenance and new construction.

In the boating industry, certain parts determine a boat's long-term reliability. Tanks, glazing and wear parts are often model-specific, and sometimes unavailable in mass production. Alterplast has built its offer on this niche, combining custom design and technical plastics manufacturing.

A tailor-made approach for professional yachting

Alterplast is equally at home in maintenance, refit and racing boat construction. The company accompanies projects from the design phase through to completion, drawing on its expertise in small and medium-sized production runs, and even single parts.

This approach responds to frequent problems in the marine industry, such as replacing original parts that have become obsolete, or adapting to specific site constraints.

Welded HDPE nautical tanks

One of Alterplast's core businesses is the manufacture of custom-made nautical tanks. The workshop produces tanks for clear water, gray water, black water and fuel, designed in mechanically welded HDPE.

Each tank is customized according to volume, shape and on-board integration constraints. For clear water tanks, a certificate of feedability is supplied, a key point for construction sites and refit professionals subject to sanitary requirements.

This type of production optimizes available space, especially on existing units where volumes are limited.

Portholes and glazing rebuilt to identical or specific specifications

Alterplast designs and manufactures custom-made nautical glazing, from flat to complex shapes. Portholes, windshields, doors, deck hatches or sliding hatches can be remanufactured from scratch when original parts are no longer available.

The company also works on specific parts, adapted to precise specifications, whether as replacements or as part of a new project. This capability is of particular interest to renovation projects faced with old or obsolete standards.

Bushings and wear parts in engineering plastics

Alterplast manufactures wear parts for marine environments, using engineering plastics such as HDPE 1000, POM C and PA 66.

These include rudder bushes, engine mounts, daggerboard wedges, engine chair plates and guidance parts. Parts can be produced from drawings supplied by the customer or from the original model.

This type of machining extends the service life of mechanical assemblies subject to high stress, while minimizing downtime.

A cross-disciplinary offer for building sites and refits

By bringing together tanks, glazing and machined parts, Alterplast addresses several segments of the marine industry. Shipyards, refit shops, maintenance companies and naval architects all find a partner capable of meeting their specific needs, without the need for standardized solutions.

This position is in line with a technical service approach, where the ability to adapt the part to the boat takes precedence over mass production. This approach is particularly relevant in a context of aging fleets and increasing refit activity.
