EnviroNaut: A sustainable boating training program for professionals

Representatives of the European boating industry and academics have joined forces to create the EnviroNaut project with the aim of training players in sustainable boating and maritime tourism. A free course which targets all the professions in the sector.

Launch of the EnviroNaut program

European Boating Industry (EBI), the European association of representatives of the boating industry, has joined forces with the German Ocean Foundation, Sea Teach, the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), the German Marine Federation (BVWW) and Frederick University to create the EnviroNaut project. This course, financed by the European program Erasmus +, will train environmental officers in the nautical tourism industry (ENVIRonmental Officer in the NAUTical Tourism Industry). Claiming the title of 1st environmental qualification in the nautical sector, it is in line with the objectives of the European Commission's Green Deal for the sustainable management of yachting and the protection of marine and coastal ecosystems.

Expand the environmental knowledge of nautical professionals

EnviroNaut is aimed at all the profiles of actors of the yachting industry: managers of ports and marinas, water sports companies, skippers, sailing schools and training companies, boat rental companies... The objective of the institutions at the origin of the project is to erase the gaps in the knowledge of ecological and sustainability issues between the employees, the practitioners and the legislation in place.

Free training

Planned to last two years, the EnviroNaut training course will offer its content online for free. First concrete aspect of the project, a workshop will be held on May 19, on the occasion of the European Maritime Day, organized by EBI in the presence of European decision makers.
