Temo announces a new electric motor for small sailboats and dinghies

After its first 450 W electric motor inspired by motogodilles, the French manufacturer Temo launches a new 1000 W model. Intended for dinghies and sailboats up to 8 meters, it displays some nice tricks.

Launch of the Temo 1000

After the success of the Temo 450, the brand's first portable electric motor, the French manufacturer of electric outboards for pleasure boats has announced the arrival of a new model, the Temo 1000. Intended for dinghies up to 6 people and sailboats up to 8 meters, it should be available in February 2023, but pre-orders are already open.

A product optimized for its power

For this new motor with an electrical power of 1,000 W, Temo announces a power to the propeller of 500 W and a static thrust of 28 kg. The manufacturer has completely revised the architecture of the product compared to the Temo 450. Where the smaller model was akin to a motogodilla, the Temo 1000 resembles a thick rudder profile, with a simple base ogive at the bottom. The aluminum profile and the overall design allow to announce a total weight of 13 kg, including 5 kg of battery.

"We chose to make a specific design for each power. This allows a compact and optimized design, unlike other manufacturers who prefer to have a design for several powers" explains Alexandre Seux, founder of Temo.

A simple electrical system and a reasonable range

The motor battery system is integrated into the vertical profile. It connects automatically to the insert with an IP67 waterproof connector. With a capacity of 20 Ah, it is interchangeable. The recharge time is 5 hours at 220 V and 12 hours at 12 V. The announced autonomy at full power is 45 minutes.

Tips for use and fixing on the boat

The engine integrates a tiller that retracts inside the profile. Depending on the boat, the Temo 1000 can be used for propulsion, remaining in the axis, fixed on a plate screwed to the deck, without requiring a chair. This may be suitable for small sailboats with an open cockpit. On the other hand, on a dinghy, the motor is fixed on a free axis at 360° by a simple clip. The shaft itself is fixed to the transom.

To get rid of the choice of shaft length, long or short, the Temo 1000 is equipped with a vertical rail that allows to adjust the height of the propeller to the hull. It remains to be seen how this will really impact the comfort of the helmsman.

While waiting for the real test, this new Temo seems to propose again an original version of the electric motor, which does not simply copy a thermal outboard motor.

The announced price is 2 850euros TTC and 2 300euros TTC for the first 100 units in presale.
