Jedo Technologies: A waterjet cutting tool designed for the nautical industry

Jedo Technologies opens its know-how in waterjet cutting to the boating industry

Jedo Technologies was established in La Rochelle in 2020. Dorian Delabrousse-Mayoux explains the reasons for this installation and the objectives of the specialist in waterjet cutting in the nautical industry.

From aeronautics to sailing

Jedo Technologies was founded in 1987 in the Toulouse region. It specializes in waterjet cutting of materials and employs about thirty people. " Until 2018, between 80% and 90% of the work was done for the aerospace industry, with strong skills in materials such as carbon, glass and sandwich cores. We started looking for other activities around Toulouse and beyond. Of the different bottles we launched, the first to come back was for the nautical and naval market "explains Dorian Delabrousse-Mayoux, head of the Jedo Technologies site in La Rochelle.

A waterjet cutting tool for the yachting market in La Rochelle

Faced with the emergence of the nautical market and its specific needs, the Toulouse-based company finally decided to invest in La Rochelle. " We started by working from Toulouse. But we had several problems: the tool was not very well adapted to large parts, the usual size in aeronautics was around 4 metres and it was complicated and not very logical in terms of logistics with these large parts. So we decided to set up a factory in La Rochelle. We have 900 m² in the Chef de Baie area, where we were able to start production at the beginning of 2020 "says Dorian Delabrousse-Mayoux.

The cutting machine offers a working area of 15 metres long and 4 metres wide and can process workpieces up to 30 metres long. It has a 5-axis cutting head, which allows the production of chamfers with an evolving profile requested by the nautical industry. The site employs 3 employees.

An offer for small series and one-off shipyards

The company is mainly dedicated to structural parts and mould frames, for which the Toulouse design office can provide the design if necessary. " We can make it very big or very small. For example, we work with C3 Technologies for their foils parts. Our interest is to bring the rigour of aeronautics certifications to improve the quality of nautical products on certain subjects such as the traceability of materials. Our customers are mainly located within a radius of 250 to 300 km. They are shipyards of small series or custom boats. We also make them protective tools for work in the fitting out phase. If the first containment slowed down the start, there are good prospects for 2021 "concludes the head of the Jedo Technologies site in La Rochelle.
