1st European for the Volvo D8 engine and its IPS versions

New Volvo Penta D8 inboard engine

Volvo Penta presented its new D8 inboard engine and associated IPS thrusters for the first time in Europe at the Cannes Motor Show. A new offer to better cover the market.

A power range in high demand

The new inboard D8 engine was designed by the Swedish engine manufacturer to meet a growing demand for engines between 500 and 600 horsepower. It enables Volvo Penta to offer a solution tailored to this boat segment.

The 6-cylinder, 7.7-litre engine is available in two versions: 550 horsepower at 2900 rpm or 600 horsepower at 3000 rpm.

Performance and consumption

Volvo Penta says it has worked particularly hard to maintain high torque at low revs to ensure high acceleration and handling performance. The new D8's power-to-weight ratio and fuel efficiency have also been engineered to be economical and environmentally friendly.

Volvo D8 - IPS

The IPS for all sizes

Previously available for models D4 to D6 and D11 to D13, the Volvo Penta IPS base is now available with the new D8 in configurations D8 - IPS700 or D8 - IPS 800. The contra-rotating propeller system that has made the Swedish engine manufacturer famous in recent years increases performance and manoeuvrability, with instinctive joystick control.

Since the first IPS was launched in 2005, more than 20,000 IPS units have been delivered to 550 boat builders. It can be found on 1100 different boat models.
