Lehmann Marine Aims for 300 MWh of Marine Batteries Per Year with a New Plant in Greece

German energy storage systems manufacturer Lehmann Marine is expanding its production capacity with the launch of an automated battery module production line in Xanthi, in northern Greece. Located on a site owned by its parent company, Sunlight Group, this facility could reach an annual capacity of 300 MWh once ramp-up is complete.

A new production line for marine battery modules

Lehmann Marine, which specializes in energy storage solutions for marine applications, announces the launch of an automated production line at the Sunlight Group industrial complex in Xanthi, Greece.

This new facility is dedicated to the manufacture of CUBE battery modules, which are designed to be integrated into the German manufacturer's energy storage systems.

The first 82 modules have been assembled and have passed quality inspections, marking the operational launch of the production line. Production is now organized around weekly shipments to Lehmann Marine's headquarters in Hittfeld, Germany.

This German facility, which was recently expanded, continues to handle final system integration, testing, and distribution.

This organization therefore divides its operations between two European sites: industrial manufacturing of modules in Greece and their integration into complete systems in Germany.

A projected capacity of 300 MWh per year

According to Lehmann Marine, the new production line could produce up to 300 MWh of battery modules per year once it is operating at full capacity.

This volume represents the manufacturer's stated production capacity, not actual production to date. The manufacturer has not specified the timeline for ramping up production or the amount of the investment made.

The company also mentions the possibility of adding other production lines in the future, though it has not announced any firm decision at this time.

Automation should make it possible to increase available volumes and reduce production lead times. Lehmann Marine and Sunlight Group also highlight improved control over the supply chain thanks to a well-organized industrial network in Europe.

A European Supply Chain for Maritime Integrators

This development directly affects boat builders, electrical equipment manufacturers, and integrators of hybrid or electric propulsion systems.

The availability of batteries is indeed a key factor in industrial planning. Delivery times, manufacturing consistency, and the ability to ensure a steady supply all influence both shipbuilding schedules and ship modernization projects.

By leveraging the Sunlight Group's industrial capabilities, Lehmann Marine aims to combine large-scale module production with its expertise in marine systems integration.

For European shipyards and system integrators, this arrangement could help ensure a stable supply. However, its actual impact on prices, delivery times, and available volumes remains to be seen.

With this new production line in Greece, Lehmann Marine is taking a significant step forward in the industrialization of its marine batteries. The next milestone will be the facility?s full ramp-up and its ability to reach the announced production volumes.
