JOOOL: Elektra Marine is structuring its shared platform for sailboats

Five months after the creation of Elektra Marine, Beneteau and Fountaine Pajot have clarified their joint strategy for electrification. JOOOL has become the joint venture?s brand, and Philippe Hamon has been named its president. The initiative now encompasses eight brands and several external shipyards.

The electric partnership between Beneteau and Fountaine Pajot is beginning to take on an industrial scale. Its JOOOL brand is set to provide a common technical platform combining propulsion, batteries, and energy management. Three other shipyards are also working with this platform.

JOOOL Becomes a Trademark of Elektra Marine

Founded in April 2026 as a 50-50 joint venture between Groupe Beneteau and Groupe Fountaine Pajot, Elektra Marine aims to pool the two manufacturers? developments in electric propulsion and onboard energy management. At its launch, the alliance brought together seven brands and set a goal of contributing to the electrification of 10 to 15 percent of the global sailing market by 2030.

JOOOL has now been confirmed as the brand under which Elektra Marine's solutions will be marketed. The platform combines propulsion, electrical storage, power conversion, energy management, interfaces, and services. It is designed to be adaptable to boats of various sizes and different architectures, in both low- and high-voltage systems.

The industrial stakes are high. An on-board electrical system involves more than simply replacing a diesel engine with an electric motor: batteries, power electronics, charging, energy generation, cooling, control interfaces, and software must all work together. Standardizing part of this system can allow manufacturers to reuse the same components across multiple model lines.

A Veteran of the Automotive Industry to Lead Standardization Efforts

Elektra Marine will be chaired by Philippe Hamon. The two groups highlight, in particular, his nearly 30 years of experience in the automotive industry, including a stint at the auto parts supplier Valeo.

This decision is consistent with the direction the joint venture has taken. The automotive industry has long relied on common platforms and components used across multiple models. Elektra Marine is seeking to apply some of this approach to the boating industry, despite much lower production volumes and different usage constraints.

The goal, therefore, is no longer simply to successfully integrate the electrical system into a few units. The aim is to make the solution replicable on more boats and, above all, to make it available to manufacturers outside the two founding groups.

Eight brands and already three off-site construction projects

The scope announced in Cannes provides an initial indication of this growth. JOOOL?s solutions now cover eight brands: Beneteau, Jeanneau, Lagoon, Lagoon Signature, Excess, Fountaine Pajot, Fountaine Pajot Yachts, and Dufour.

The Beneteau Group has announced four affected models, and the Fountaine Pajot Group has announced ten. However, neither company provides a complete list of these 14 boats in their press release.

More significantly, in terms of the goal of creating an open platform, three external boatbuilders have been announced as partners with JOOOL: Leopard Catamaran, RM Yachts, and Chantier de l'Arsenal.

This development is one to watch closely. The ability of a shared platform to go beyond the product lines of its two shareholders will, in fact, be one of the indicators of its potential for standardization.

The SAV becomes part of the propulsion system

Electrification also raises the issue of maintenance. An electric motor has fewer mechanical parts than a diesel engine, but the overall system includes batteries, converters, power electronics, and management software.

JOOOL reports that it has 19 after-sales service locations. The platform also uses satellite and cellular connectivity, which?when a connection is available?allows users to remotely view system status, alarms, and various operational logs.

This allows the technical support team to assist with diagnostics, adjust certain settings, and send software updates. Depending on the nature of the problem, remote support can eliminate the need for a technician to visit the site immediately.

For a long-distance boater, this aspect is by no means secondary. The value of an electric propulsion system is also measured by the ability to find assistance far from the shipyard where the boat was built.
