Mastervolt offers an IP67 waterproof version of its Mac Plus 48 V DC-DC charger

The energy management specialist expands its Mac Plus range. These new DC-DC chargers are designed for exposed installations. Above all, they retain the bi-directional technology already seen on the 48 V models.

In fishing boats, work dinghies or certain technical vehicles, converters and chargers are sometimes installed in poorly protected lockers. Exposure to sea spray, water splashes or dust requires equipment that can operate without ventilation or additional protection.

An IP67 version designed for exposed installations

Mastervolt announces a new IP67 waterproof version of its Mac Plus range. These 48 V DC-DC chargers can now be mounted in unenclosed environments, with a reinforced aluminum casing and a protective cover for the connections.

The range targets fishing boats, trailers and mobile applications. Like the other Mac Plus 48 V models, these versions use a bidirectional architecture: the charger can use either battery bank as input or output. The system thus manages the recharging of both engine and service batteries without the risk of discharging the starter battery, thanks to automatic detection of engine operation.

Mastervolt also specifies that several units can be connected in parallel to exceed 100 A of load capacity.

Lithium compatibility and NMEA 2000 integration

The Mac Plus retains Mastervolt's "3-step+" charging algorithm and accepts open lead-acid, AGM, Gel and lithium batteries, including LiFePO4. The charger can also recover deeply discharged batteries.

The manufacturer emphasizes its compatibility with modern variable-regulation alternators, a point that has become important on recent installations. The unit operates without a fan to reduce on-board noise.

In terms of integration, the chargers communicate via MasterBus, CZone and NMEA 2000, enabling supervision and parameter setting from on-board screens.

Four versions are available: 48/12-50A, 12/48-15A, 48/24-30A and 24/48-15A.
