Ocean Safety and VDM-REYA: an alliance to enhance boating safety

British manufacturer Ocean Safety and French distributor VDM-REYA join forces under the umbrella of the Alliance Marine group. The aim: to offer yachtsmen marine safety equipment previously reserved for professionals. A move in line with a sustainable vision of safety at sea.

Complementary expertise in the service of safety

Founded thirty years ago, British company Ocean Safety is renowned in the marine sector for designing safety equipment for professionals, particularly in the offshore racing, salvage and commercial fleet sectors. In 2024, it formalized a strategic collaboration with VDM-REYA, a long-standing B2B distributor for the boating industry in France, also with three decades of experience. Both entities belong to the Alliance Marine group, facilitating industrial and commercial synergies between manufacturer and distributor.

An offer accessible to the general nautical public

This cooperation means that equipment previously intended for professional use is now available to French yachtsmen. Ocean Safety designs its products for demanding marine environments, with high levels of reliability and durability. VDM-REYA distributes them nationwide, via a network that includes shipchandlers, sailmakers, shipyards and marinas.

" Our collaboration is based on this cumulative experience "explains Jean-Nicolas Barral, Operations Director of VDM-REYA. " It's a partnership that really works, and VDM-REYA's aim is to offer boaters and professional sailors the very best safety solutions. "

A range structured around five pillars

Distribution covers five main product categories:

  • Survival racks ISO products designed and developed by Hero for yachting; the SOLAS range is distributed under the Hero brand

  • Life jackets ergonomic, with the option of integrating beacons for AIS tracking.

  • Lifelines and harnesses reinforced and designed for prolonged use in rough seas.

  • MOB recovery equipment including the JonBuoy system so popular with ocean racers.

  • Location beacons developed in partnership with Ocean Signal, for rapid location in the event of an emergency.

A structured after-sales service

Distribution is accompanied by a complete technical service: advice, regulatory support, equipment maintenance and access to a network of approved service stations. VDM-REYA also makes available a catalog of over 500 safety references, including Ocean Safety products, accessible online and through partner dealers.

" Our mission goes far beyond simple distribution" insists Jean- Nicolas Barral. "We want every sailor, whether a seasoned professional or an occasional yachtsman, to be able to sail with the certainty that their safety equipment will respond if the need arises."

A long-term strategy

Against a backdrop of democratization of yachting, this approach aims to enhance the overall level of safety for sailors, whatever their level of experience. The partnership meets a growing need for reliability and accessibility in a field where the stakes can be vital.
