Awlgrip targets demanding applications with a hybrid primer
Awlgrip now markets a product combining the functions of a finish primer and a show coat. Developed for superyachts and new high-finish units, Gloss Finish Primer reduces the number of preparation steps prior to application of the final topcoat.
Unlike the traditional two-coat system âeuros primer then âeuros show coat âeuros this unique product allows you to proceed more quickly to the topcoat. Thanks to its glossy appearance, it makes micro-defects (scratches, porosities, transitions) visible, facilitating their correction prior to final painting.
A high-dry-extract formulation to limit emissions
Gloss Finish Primer is based on a high-solids polyurethane formulation. This translates into up to a 50% reduction in VOC (volatile organic compound) emissions per square metre, compared with a two-product application.
This environmental performance meets a growing demand from construction sites, particularly in basins subject to strict standards (closed port areas, ventilated halls subject to regulation). The high density provides equivalent coverage with less sprayed material.

A product designed for fast application and efficient sanding
Awlgrip emphasizes ease of application. The primer is available in gallon and quart packs, and in three standard shades: white, grey and dark blue. It is intended exclusively for professionals, in particular certified Awlgrip applicator workshops.
The reduced drying time enables rapid sanding, an essential step prior to lacquer application. This optimizes application cycles, especially in controlled environments or during a refit requiring a tight schedule.
Compatibility and fields of application: a tool for high-end projects
Designed to integrate with Awlgrip paint systems, this product is compatible with undercoats and levelling compounds used in the construction of composite or metal hulls. It is intended for exterior areas subject to demanding visual inspection.

Awlgrip specifies that the product is also "repairable", i.e. it can be sanded and retouched if necessary, an advantage when making adjustments at the end of the job. It is not, however, available in custom colors.
Reduce overheads and standardize processes
By integrating two functions in a single product, Awlgrip aims to standardize steps on production lines or in refit shops. Fewer coats also means less solvent consumption, less waiting time, less protective equipment, and less indirect labor.
This is of particular interest to just-in-time construction sites, seeking to maximize the ratio of quality to time spent on high value-added units.
