Quantum Sails moves into new premises to expand in Lorient

Sailmaker Quantum Sails has moved into new premises in the port of Lorient. Antoine Martineau, co-director of the Lorient-based sailmaker, explains his choice as part of his strategy to develop the American brand.

New premises for Quantum Sails Lorient

Previously located on two neighboring sites, the Quantum Sails teams now have a single location, in buildings specially designed and fitted out for their use. Covering a total of 900 m2, including 500 m2 of floor space, the 11 employees are now fully operational, as Antoine Martineau, co-director of the company with Yannick Audren, explains: "We used to have a saddlery floor in one place and a sail-making floor in another, but now we have everything in one place. For customers, the address only changes by 150 m on Rue de l'Ingénieur Verrière. The new tool makes our day-to-day work easier. Before, we had to adapt to the building, but now it's been redesigned to suit our needs, with rotating pits in particular. We can now work on sails of any size, with our machines and floor space. If we arrived in October 2022, we're now 100% operational."

Continuing to open up to racing and regattas

Quantum Sails' clientele remains mainly yachtsmen and club racers, with sailmaking accounting for 50% of the business and saddlery the other half. However, as he indicated when he joined the Quantum brand in 2020, Antoine Martineau wants to develop the business in ocean racing, as he has already begun to do. "We already had a strong presence in saddlery, with exterior protection, interior storage, canvas for matossage and bumpers for RIBs, but we're also making progress in sailmaking. We are present in Figaro 3, a little in Mini and we have an IMOCA sail being made in the workshop. It's a long-term project."
