Dimension Polyant launches a new product designed to offer independent sailboats access to filament technology. The Tyra-PLy panels were presented at Nautic 2022.

Launch of the Tyra-Ply

Dimension Polyant, a German specialist in the supply of materials for sailmakers, is launching a new product called Tyra-Ply. It consists of fabric panels produced by filament deposition. With these new fabrics, Dimension Polyant offers a material with high-end characteristics. It claims to be thinner, lighter and stronger than a conventional laminate or membrane sail system. Tyra-Ply sails also benefit from the advantages of filamentary in their shape stability, which is durable over time.

Democratize filament technology

Until now, sails using filament technologies have been reserved for large brands that have developed their own in-house processes. These require investment in expensive machines capable of depositing the fiber bands. These must be purchased from a limited number of suppliers, making the technology necessarily expensive.

By starting the Tyra-Ply project in 2019, Dimension Polyant has set the goal of making this technology available to all sailmakers. To do this, it acquired the machines and made sure it had control over the production of the fiber strips. The German manufacturer is now able to produce Tyra-Ply panels for assembly. All of its sailmaker customers, including independent sailmakers outside of the large networks, will thus be able to benefit from the filament systems.

Dimension Polyant began pre-marketing Tyra-Ply in late 2022 for use on cross-cut sails. The company is also working on the development of panels for radial cut sails.
