Port du Crouesty: 3 years of work for a better reception

Future port of Crouesty

The port of Crouesty launches its renewal. A 24 million euro investment program to make the port more welcoming for boats, yachtsmen and holidaymakers alike.

3 years of work on the port of Crouesty

The Compagnie des Ports du Morbihan and the town of Arzon have presented their plan called Renouveau du Port du Crouesty. Born from a reflection process started in 2017, it will last for 3 years, between 2022 and 2025, and will affect both the water and the infrastructures on land. It has a threefold objective: to provide a service to boaters, to develop the port for all users and to reinstate the largest port in Morbihan, with its 2,100 berths, including more than 1,400 afloat, in the heart of the town of Arzon.

In order not to interfere with the summer season and the reception of the nearly 350,000 annual visitors, the work, with an overall budget of 24 million Euros, will be interrupted each year between May and November. The final delivery is expected for May 2025.

Dredging to accommodate more deep-draft boats

The last dredging of the port of Crouesty dates from 2016. Through the dredging campaigns of the winters of 2023 and 2024, the Compagnie des Ports du Morbihan intends to improve its capacity to receive large vessels. Jean-Marc Gauter, director of the port of Crouesty, explains: "The bulk of the dredging will concern the port channel and the two docks located at the entrance. The objective is to find dimensions to accommodate more boats with a draft of more than 1.80 meters and up to 2.40 or 2.50 meters. During high tidal ranges, we are obliged to move a lot of boats, which is a complex logistical constraint. This will give us more solutions."

The work will not increase the port's capacity, says the director: "Today, the increase is more about gaining land onshore in the Redo area."

Updating of technical and sanitary spaces

The work on land involves the redevelopment of the parking lots and the technical and sanitary areas. New, much larger sanitary buildings, together with a tourist information office, will be built to the north. On the Redo side, a mixed technical and sanitary building will also be built. Jean-Marc Gauter adds: "Water recovery is planned for the green spaces. The restrooms are also planned with airlocks to modulate capacity out of season and not waste energy lighting and heating oversized spaces."

Traffic and greening

To better enhance the port for tourists and boaters, a policy of greening the spaces is planned. A pier will be built on the quai des Voiliers. A harbour square, a real esplanade facing the town of Arzon, will decompartmentalize the marina from the town.

For the professional use of the port, separate circulation between convoys of boats and individuals will facilitate handling.
