ePropulsion targets large boats with inboard electric motors

Until now limited to outboard motors, the Chinese manufacturer of electric boat motors ePropulsion unveils its first inboard motor. This is an opportunity to open up a new market for large yachts.

First inboard engine for ePropulsion

Since 2012, the Chinese brand ePropulsion has built a significant line of electric outboard motors. Their gray and blue motors have found a home on a number of transoms. The electric motor manufacturer announced on May 11, 2022 the creation of a new inboard motor offering with the launch of the H-100 as the first model to be officially presented at the Electric & Hybrid Marine Expo.

A 100 kW electric motor

The power of this new model is in contrast to the limited outboard motors, which range from 1 to 6 kW. The ePropulsion H-100 inboard develops 100kW and a maximum torque of 2,000 Nm. The announced weight is 190 kg. The modular system developed by the brand allows to consider double installations for more power.

A "docking" mode allows you to manage the torque and control the boat at low speed. The "Syn" mode facilitates the management of the incoming power in case of double H-100 on the boat.

When used with ePropulsion's HC-160-54 controller, the H100 will be able to use DC power directly and will not require the addition of an inverter onboard the boat.

Aiming for the big boats in the first place

While the power of ePropulsion's outboard engines was mainly aimed at small boats and the aftermarket, the new H100 inboard engine opens new markets. ePropulsion says it wants to focus more on the aftermarket and be able to equip boats from 60 to 100 feet, with a load displacement up to 200 tons.

In yachting, large monohulls, catamarans and riverboats are in the Chinese manufacturer's sights.
