Marine electric motor manufacturer Torqeedo builds new infrastructure

Start of construction of new Torqeedo plant

Torqeedo, the leader in electric propulsion for pleasure craft, is investing in new production facilities and a new headquarters to support its growth. More details on the future factory for electric outboard and inboard motors.

New premises for Torqeedo

The pioneer of electric drives in the boating industry, Torqeedo, has taken a new step in its growth. The German company, which was acquired in 2017 by the Deutz Group, launched the construction of its new headquarters and a new factory on June 30, 2021. The buildings are located on the Air Tech Campus in the Munich metropolitan area, like the current headquarters, and are expected to be operational by Q1 2022. They will comprise 3720 m² of office space, divided between co-working areas and resident offices, and 4820 m² dedicated to storage, production of electric motors, research and development.

Optimize production and benefit from technological partnerships useful to the nautical industry

With the new facilities, Torqeedo will be able to streamline its production of both outboard and inboard motors by combining the activities currently spread over three factories in one location. "The new facilities will enable direct contact and exchange between the various departments. On the production side, we are consolidating our 3 current manufacturing sites into one, so we are looking forward to increasing our utilization capabilities as personnel can move from one production line to another. In addition, we have room for growth and processes that are always quality-oriented," says Ralf Plieninger, Torqeedo's managing director. He is also pleased that companies active in the field of electromobility, such as Lilium and Dornier, are present on the campus to work on partnerships in the field of lithium-ion batteries, electric motors and advanced composite materials.
