Dometic acquires solar panel manufacturer and targets aftermarket

The equipment manufacturer Dometic has announced the acquisition of Valterra Products. A growth lever in the field of energy and solar panels, but also a mark of the company's willingness to develop its retail and services offer in parallel with the original equipment.

Dometic acquires Valterra Products

The global heavyweight in boating and recreational vehicle equipment Dometic has announced an agreement to acquire US-based Valterra Products. Valterra Products is a leading supplier of equipment for motorhomes, vans and boats in the United States, with a wide range of products, from solar panels to sanitary warehouses and grey and black water systems, as well as various electrical equipment. Founded in 1981, the company employs 550 people in offices in California, Florida, British Columbia and at its plant in Mexico. Its sales in 2020 were $94 million, with organic growth of 12%. The amount of the transaction was not made public.

Growth in solar panels and aftermarket

The transaction will allow Dometic to fulfill two objectives. Valterra's core business is service and the second world or "aftermarket". They represent two thirds of the sales of the new Dometic acquisition. The Swedish equipment manufacturer has a strategy of developing these activities with end users, particularly boaters. It sees growth potential and less exposure to the cyclicality of the new vehicle and boat markets.

The integration of the Valterra-owned Go Power! solar panel brand is also an important step forward for Dometic in the growing field of renewable energy. Go Power!'s mobile solar power solutions are already installed on board ships.
