Special Edition / Marlec: Solutions to produce and manage renewable energy on board

Whether it's wind turbines or solar panels, Marlec offers a variety of complementary and integrated solutions to provide renewable energy on board boats. An offer proven by the British supplier to thousands of boaters.

Ecological solutions for energy on board ships

The British company Marlec has made a specialty of renewable energy sources on board boats. By producing and marketing a range of wind turbines and solar panels associated with their charging system, the equipment manufacturer offers boaters complementary and integrated solutions for electricity management. "We offer ecological solutions to provide energy on board. This saves fuel and by combining the two solutions, solar and wind, it allows a more sustainable life on board" explains Teresa Auciello, Marlec's General Manager.

Solar panels for all types of navigation

The Marlec catalog contains 3 brands of semi-flexible solar panels and 2 ranges of framed panels, in order to best adapt to the configurations on board. The Spectra brand, owned by Marlec, targets low consumption boats, mainly for load holding, with a range of semi-flexible panels from 5 to 35 W. For larger units, Marlec distributes the Sunware and Sunpower brands. Sunware panels, from 14 to 100 W, use large cells and high voltage, limiting dissipation and optimizing efficiency. The American brand Sunpower, with its great flexibility, offers a great robustness thanks to its "back contact" technology limiting the effect on the load of a possible defective cell.

"With this wide range of solar solutions, we can satisfy all boaters according to their navigation modes and adapt ourselves by covering the maximum surface of the boat" summarizes Teresa Auciello.

Renowned wind turbines on pleasure yachts

Marlec's reputation has been built on the development of its wind turbines, which are built at its factory in Corby, UK. In 40 years and with over 100,000 turbines in operation worldwide, it has gained the experience necessary to create discreet and efficient models. The Rutland 1200 3-blade model is aimed at owners living aboard yachts over 12 meters, while the Rutland 914 with 6 blades offers a discreet power source from 10 meters. The smallest model, the Rutland 504 wind turbine, guarantees the maintenance of the equipment on a small boat.

To simplify installations and make energy management more accessible, all models are available with mixed solar and wind chargers.
