Saint-Nazaire: the idea of a relaunched marina

Abandoned in September 2019, the project for a new marina in Saint-Nazaire is back on the table, after statements by Mayor David Samzun. A few elements on this still embryonic nautical equipment.

Relaunch of the idea of a marina in Saint-Nazaire

On the occasion of the presentation of the major projects for the year 2021, the mayor of Saint-Nazaire Samzun returned to the reception of pleasure boats. Abandoned for financial reasons in 2019, the creation of a marina in the basin of the town centre is resurfacing. The elected representative has announced that he has obtained the support of the Grand Port Maritime de Nantes Saint-Nazaire for lighter infrastructures, with a capacity of 80 moorings. This agreement in principle is not for the moment fixed in any calendar nevertheless underlines the Municipality. Similarly, the choice of the type of management of the port remains to be defined.

From Quai du Commerce to Petit Maroc

The marina project is changing in scale and location. The hypothesis abandoned in 2019 provided for the installation of about a hundred rings quai du Commerce, near the former submarine base. The cost of cleaning up the site has pushed the price of the project up to 40 million euros, and the new site envisaged is Quai Demange, on the other side of the basin, in the Petit Maroc district. 80 boats, moored on pontoons and catways, would be accommodated there, with the necessary onshore services, reception and sanitary facilities.

Nautical ambitions of Saint-Nazaire

This announcement comes at a time when the town of Saint-Nazaire is constantly asserting its desire to be a reference point for water sports. The port notably welcomed the arrival of the Solitaire du Figaro 2020. The Municipality wish to make the dock a place of animation, notably through the presence of pleasure boats.
