Annapolis: US back-to-school season postponed again

Annapolis Boat Show 2019

The calendar for the American re-entry of yachting is once again in turmoil. The Annapolis Boat Shows, United States Sailboat and Powerboat Shows are cancelled following an administrative decision.

United States Boat Shows Cancelled

Annapolis boat show organizers have announced the cancellation of their events. The United States Sailboat Show, the largest floating boat show in the United States and its counterpart the United States Powerboat Show, scheduled from October 8 to 12 and October 1 to 4 respectively, are traditionally the premier fall events for yachting enthusiasts in the United States. Their 2020 editions will not take place due to the health situation. "After only two meetings with the City of Annapolis and health officials, and months of work to devise protocols to create a safe and healthy environment for the United States Powerboat Show and the United States Sailboat Show, the City of Annapolis and County Health Officers have withdrawn their support and cancelled the fall 2020 shows," the release said.

The organisers stress the need, in their view, to take better account of the challenges of rescuing the economy from health risks.

Towards a great spring fair

Discussions had been held with the authorities for the holding of a limited lounge, accommodating no more than 6,000 people per day. The project did not seem to be convincing. Generally more modest, the Annapolis Spring Sailboat Show, could take on larger dimensions for its 2021 edition. This is what industry members and the local economy are hoping for, with the fall event generating an average of $112 million for the town of Annapolis each year.
