Mercury launches into the world of V6 outboards

Mercury has just introduced a new outboard engine built on a brand new V6 block. It will be available in 175, 200 and 225 hp. A first for this manufacturer which had in its range only 6 cylinders in line.

Launched simultaneously at the Miami (USA) and Helsinki (Finland) shows, Mercury announces the launch of a new engine block for its outboards. It is a 3.4-litre V6 with 4 valves per cylinder. This engine will be available in 175, 200 and 225 hp.

The use of a V6 for outboards of these powers is not new. Suzuki already uses this type of engine for more than 200 hp. On the other hand, Suzuki has opted for a larger displacement (3.6 litres) to give even more torque to this range.

Mercury V6

For Mercury, the use of a V6 is a revival. Indeed, the American engine manufacturer had until now opted for a 6-cylinder in-line engine. This is therefore a novelty for him, who will undoubtedly require a development phase before displaying the reliability of the competitors.

For this new range, Mercury has completely reworked the look of its covers, choosing a very angular design, strangely reminiscent of Star War ships. Amateurs will appreciate...

The motor is available in 4 colours. One black and 3 shades of white. The rear central part (on which the power is written) can also be combined in 4 colours (blue, grey, red or white).

All that remains for this manufacturer to do now is to reveal the price of his new jewel to us in order to compare it to the other outboards of the competition.

After 25 days at sea, there are already 3 of them who have given up, 2 to run in the Chichester category and 1 who has retired from the race to take part independently in the "Carozzo" category.
