The INB remains committed to Finistère and is preparing to set up operations in Port la Forêt

The Brittany Nautical Institute has definitively chosen its future home port. After several months of debate over a possible move to Lorient, the institute will remain in Finistère. The staff will leave the historic premises in Concarneau and relocate to Port-la-Forêt.

The Institut Nautique de Bretagne (INB) has put an end to the uncertainty surrounding its future. At its meeting on Wednesday, June 24, the general assembly unanimously approved the transfer of its operations to Port la Forêt, in the town of La Forêt Fouesnant. This decision puts an end to the proposed move to Lorient, which had been under discussion for several months.

Based in Concarneau since the 1960s, the INB trains approximately 500 students each year in careers related to the boating industry. The training programs cover, among other things, the maintenance of recreational boats, marine engines, onboard equipment, and sales and marketing roles within the industry. The current facilities, which had become inadequate, no longer met the center?s growth needs.

Moving to a familiar environment

This isn't the first time INB has been involved in Port la Forêt. Since 2013, the organization has been operating a technical facility there dedicated to boat maintenance, located right next to the marina.

The new building will bring together the programs currently scattered throughout Concarneau into newer facilities better suited to educational needs.

A Choice at the Heart of the Boating Industry

The choice of Port la Forêt places the Institut Nautique de Bretagne in an environment particularly focused on recreational boating and offshore racing. The port has more than 1,100 berths, numerous companies specializing in shipbuilding, ship repair, sailmaking, and marine hardware, as well as the Pôle Finistère Course au Large.

Local authorities had anticipated this decision. A revision of the local zoning plan was initiated in the spring of 2026 to allow for the construction of the future building, which will have a maximum height of 15 meters.

With this decision, the Brittany Nautical Institute maintains its historic roots in Finistère while preparing to modernize its infrastructure within one of Brittany?s leading nautical hubs.
