Two Cabesto outlets open on the Mediterranean coast. One opens in Marseille's Old Port. The other is in Saint-Cyprien, marking the gradual organization of a new distribution network dedicated to pleasure boating.
Marseille Vieux-Port and Saint Cyprien: prime locations
Cabesto expands its franchise network with two store openings. Although the sales area is much smaller than that of existing directly-operated stores, the arrival of this new player on the market could change a few things. ZeBoat's new premises in Marseille's Vieux Port put the brand in direct contact with boaters. The Vieux Port offers nearly 3,200 berths, and local yachting is very dynamic.
In Saint-Cyprien, this new store will benefit from a large sales area, on a harbor with 2,200 berths, but with a slightly more seasonal traffic pattern.
But these new plants are being built in a very specific context. Visit previous partnership with Speed Fishing in Saint-Cyr stopped operating after 10 months, without any detailed explanation. This raises questions about the stability of the franchise model in a sector where customer relations rely heavily on expertise in the field.
A franchise model still undergoing adjustment
Deploying a franchise network in the marine sector remains a delicate exercise. Unlike other sectors, the shipchandler relies on a high level of technical expertise and in-depth knowledge of marine practices.
A franchisee needs to master a wide range of fields, from rigging to marine electricity, safety and regulations. Simply duplicating a business model is not enough.
And the Speed Fishing episode is a reminder that these partnerships are not always sustainable. Without solid technical support and local roots, the franchise can quickly lose its coherence in the face of established players.
A strategy that still lacks clarity
When contacted, Cabesto's management did not respond to our interview requests. It is therefore difficult to know exactly what the medium-term objectives of these openings are.
The fact remains that these two new sites are indicative of the direction in which we are heading. Strengthen our presence in busy ports, while covering regional navigation basins.
